Happy Spring Everyone! We're only 16 days until the Toronto Screenwriting Conference. Thanks to all of you who have already registered, we're excited to share with you what is shaping up to be a very exciting weekend of creative inspiration and screenwriting education. This past Monday, we announced three new speakers.

Along with these awesome announcements, it's time to play that game again. Guess our next speaker! We're going to give you one BIG hint:

Our newest speaker is responsible for creating a certain hollywood list. This list is an annual ranking of the year's best unproduced scripts. Many of these scripts on this list have been subsequently produced; Oscar winners Juno and There Will Be Blood are alums, as well as critically acclaimed films such as The RoadZombieland, and Lars and the Real Girl. You can get google-ing now, because we'll be announcing this speaker tomorrow.

As writers, we all know how difficult it is to overcome writer's block. Pen Densham, who will be speaking at the TSC 2011, has some great tips on how to beat the block. You can find those tips in his book Riding The Alligator, at his TSC 2011 session, or in this great interview

Guess Our Next Speaker(s)! - Episode 2

Hello Fellow Screenwriters!

We've all been working hard here at the TSC 2011 office to make sure that this year's conference is like none other. On that note, we have several amazing speakers under our belts who we can't quite announce yet. Next week we will be announcing not one, not two, but three extraordinary speakers.

So it's time to play the game again... guess our next speakers! Here are a few clues to send you off on that IMDB hunt.

  • One of our to be announced speakers created one of the longest running Nickelodeon Cartoons, running for 7 seasons (120 episodes)
  • This speaker has writing credits on Danny Phantom, T.U.F.F. Puppy, Dexter's Laboratory, Jimmy Neutron, Johnny Bravo, and Cow and Chicken.
  • He is also a voice actor with credits on T.U.F.F. Puppy and Family Guy.
  • Our two other TBA speakers will be speaking on a panel together because they both work on a Canadian Science-Fiction series that was originally a popular web-series. The popularity of the show led to its expansion on Syfy. They are both Executive-Producers on this show.
  • One of them is the creator and head-writer on the show. His previous writing credits include Stargate, Beastmaster, and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues
  • The other speaker works as a director and writer on the show, and has over 70 directing credits on Stargate.

Get onto IMDB, like us on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter for more clues. And stay tuned for the announcements (and more!) by signing up for our Mailing List. See you all on April 9 and 10 at the Toronto Screenwriting Conference 2011.

Guess Our Next Speaker! - Episode 1

Calling All Screenwriters!

It's time to play a game. It's called... guess our next speaker! So far, we've announced 6 amazing speakers, but we're sitting on 6 more and we just can't wait to tell you about them all. We'll be announcing another speaker very soon but we can't reveal our secrets too quickly. Especially when they're really good. Here are a few hints:
  • He started from small beginnings before he became a screenwriter, so all you screenwriting Student Bodies will want to listen to his inspirational story.
  • You can hear him at the conference talk about the mind games of television writing.
  • He may have written about an anti-social doctor, but you'll want to get an appointment with this screenwriting expert.
  • Our next speaker will be coming all the way from L.A. to speak at the conference. We hope he doesn't get Lost. Hopefully a Good Wife will keep him on track to Toronto for April 9th and 10th.
Who could it be? Guess you'll have to wait! Register now before Early Bird Registration ends this Monday, February 28th.
